Moose Jaw Soccer Association FC Program (U9-19 Competitive/Travelling Teams)
What is FC? FC is the term used for our competitive soccer programs. This program is geared toward those athletes who are motivated and who are looking to advance their developmental skills and abilities. Travel throughout Saskatchewan, exhibition games, and out-of-town tournaments are all possibilities in the FC program. This means players and parents will need to be more committed than in our House League or Just 4 Kicks programs. Several players, male and female, have gotten university and college scholarships.
How much does it cost? The basic fees for the FC programs cost more than our other programs because of the additional training/experience that the coaches have, the extra training time, etc. The fees for FC include SSA player insurance, field rental, equipment usage, referee costs for some exhibition games, and coach education/training. There is a $200 volunteer bond and a $50 fundraising bond in addition to the fees. These bonds will be applied to your account at the end of the season for players whose parent/guardian/older family members do not volunteer for any of the various volunteer positions available or do not fulfill the fundraising requirement. Parents who would like to opt out completely from volunteering can pay a non-refundable $250 volunteer bond but this is discouraged as our volunteers are what help to keep our costs down. There are also additional fees for tournaments, travel, hotel, exhibition games, league play, etc.
I am funded through JumpStart, KidSport, or another Financial Assistance program, do I have to pay the volunteer bond? Yes, unless you coach a team, volunteer for tournaments, join one of our committees, become a Board Member, take on the role of Team Manager, etc.
Can I decrease my FC fees at all? Our registration fee is set. However, teams may choose to take on various fundraising or sponsorship opportunities to bring the additional costs down for tournaments, travel, etc.
Do FC players have uniforms? Yes. Players are required to purchase the following clothing; a practice t-shirt, 2 game jerseys, game shorts, and 2 game socks. MJSA Backpack or Duffel Bag are suggested but not mandatory.
Do we have to purchase new clothing each season? No, if your player's clothing still fits and is in good condition they may reuse their clothing each season, this includes jerseys so long as colors have not changed and the jerseys are in good condition.
Do we get team attire? Teams are encouraged to discuss at the Team Meeting whether any team attire will be purchased or not. Teams are welcome to take part in fundraising opportunities should they choose or families may pay out of pocket for the attire.
Do FC players play games? Yes, they play games against other clubs. FC players practice as a team and they play as a team. Players on the younger FC teams may not have a dedicated position that they play but many will start to play a more dedicated position as they gain experience.
Do players get equal playing time during games? Our FC program is designed to allow all players to gain the skills necessary to be successful, however, equal playing time is not guaranteed for players. Playing time given to each player during a game will be dependent on several factors, including the effort put in by the player during practice along with the ability to be a team player.
Who coaches FC? FC coaches, like our House League coaches, are volunteers. However, our FC coaches have more soccer experience as they may have played themselves and/or received training geared toward a competitive environment. They must provide clean criminal record checks, take the Respect in Sport training, and are provided with Curricula and other resources to enhance their coaching.
